RealTracks Artist Bio: Viktor Krauss

Viktor Krauss is a prolific composer and bassist from Nashville Tennessee. Credited on over 500 albums as either a bassist, composer/songwriter or a producer, his presence influenced music since 1992. Krauss describes his music as "a soundtrack without a movie with nods to 'jazz and classic rock'."

Some notable recordings include his solo debut of original compositions, "Far From Enough" (2004), which also feature Bill Frisell, Jerry Douglas, Steve Jordan, and Alison Krauss. Three years later, he released "II", featuring guitarist Dean Parks and drummer Matt Chamberlain. Then, "Vignette" (2016) was released with lever harpist extraordinaire Maeve Gilchrist.

In 2006, Krauss earned a fellowship from the Sundance Institute for the Film Composers' Lab. He composed music for directors Ken Burns and the late Robert Altman. Krauss’ original compositions for solos continue to be used as "bumpers" for National Public Radio. In 2020, his "Split Window Studio" was completed for private and commercial use. It is home to a vast collection of vintage synthesizers, guitars, and effect pedals.

Most recently, in 2022, Krauss played the electric guitar, six-string bass, and piano in the “Raise the Roof” tour, alongside Robert Plant and Alison Krauss.
